Mon, 12 October 2009 ![]() Noisemaker 19? Yes, 19. Here's those non-existent shownotes... First, Bert and Ryan talk a lot about an email. By the way, if you want to email the show, please do! Here's the emails... Anyway, in the email Bert and Ryan discuss things like fluff and stuff (Ryan's phrase... he's good at making rhymes...) We talk about how Warmachine 2 rules are free on the internet and what that would mean for enterprising wargamers such as Ryan and I. Then, we talked about whether or not magic is a good game mechanic or whether magic is just for lazy game designers who want to artifically balance the forces... We also talk about Donald Featherstone's books about wargaming and how you can get them at your local library. It's a rather meandering discussion, but you should enjoy it... You have enjoyed listening to us so far! No, I know that just writing it doesn't make it so... We'll try to flow better next time... Other websites: Two history podcasts you may enjoy... http://thehistoryofrome.typepad.com/the_history_of_rome/2008/11/index.html http://www.learnoutloud.com/Podcast-Directory/History/European-History/Napoleon-101-Podcast/18827 A site for painting that Ryan's really interested in... www.thepaintingcorps.blogspot.com Oh, yeah, and here's the site for privateer press... And here's the site where you can buy Donald's books... Ryan added some photos to this website... Go check it out!

Fri, 10 July 2009 ![]() In this episode of Noisemaker Bert and Ryan tackle the following gamer related topics: 1. First we tackle some emails and some reaction from Bert's fiction writing. 2. Second, we talk about cheap gaming and painting. Ryan utters the words, "The glory of Hobby Lobby." 3. Bert talks about a game that he played with Doug recently. He gushes all over the rules set (it's messy). It's Shako 2, and Bert enters the fray of discussion surrounding these rules. 4. Bert and Ryan discuss sneaky tactics for getting loved ones and friends into different aspects of the gaming hobby. 5. Bert and Ryan discuss basing techniques. See the following website for help: http://www.wargameaccessories.com/ 6. Bert has a special guest interview, a first in wargaming hobby podcasting! (OK, it's not THAT spectacular, but it's pretty cool...) 7. Naomi Mueller provides some music for the podcast. 8. You also get 40 minutes of a review of Shako 2! Look here in order to purchase them: http://www.brigadegames.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=WR-SHAKOII&Category_Code=WR&Product_Count=80 All that and more: Just enjoy! Mon, 22 June 2009 So, I've been playing with my old lego sets lately. Big deal, right? Anyway, I use what I have to make my miniatures for wargaming... Legos work well, especially when it comes to building mechs! Here are a set of rules for miniature wargaming with futuristic battle mechs. They need a bit of refining, a project I'm currently working on as it is. But if you would like to try these out, tell me what you think! Comments[0] |
Mon, 22 June 2009 ![]() In Noisemaker Episode 15 Ryan and Bert examine the rules for Chain Reaction 3.0 Swordplay by Ed Tiexeira. The audio is a little bit messed up between Ryan and Bert, but the bulk of the segment is either Ryan or Bert talking (mostly Ryan) so things are not as bad as you might think. The rules for Chain Reaction 3.0 are available for free at: http://www.wargamevault.com/product_info.php?products_id=61549&src=FrontPage Then, in Segment 2, Bert has a conversation with friend and gamer Dan Wing. The conversation is mostly about a couple of games that Bert played with Dan while Bert was on vacation back in May. Yes, May. Sorry about the delay. The rules we used were the Napoleonics Rules found in "Wargaming, an Introduction" which we previously reviewed on Noisemaker. See episode 5. The conversation is a lot of fun, a good listen if I do say so myself. Finally, in Segment 3, Bert displays his "talent" in writing fiction with the first chapter of a novel that he's been working on. If you think that I'm an OK writer, and you'd like me to finish the book, please let me know. I think it's an interesting story that I've developed, but I don't know. You're guinea pigs, you know? And you are the most diverse group of people that I've had the pleasure of talking to... So, enjoy, if you dare! Comments[3] |
Tue, 2 June 2009 I'm sorry... I'm vacationing where the wifi is uploading things at 12 mbps! It was going to take some 4 hours to upload 90 mb's at that speed. I didn't realize that libsyn would post a "ghost" episode 14 if I stopped the upload... So, here's episode 14 for real. Hopefully... Comments[4] |
Sat, 30 May 2009 In segment one of Episode 14, Bert talks about how he's playing wounded, and he handles some correspondence. Then in segment 2, Bert talks with Rich and his son Chris about a boardgame they played called Soldier Emperor. Segment 3 is a longer conversation with Ryan. We talk about how to fix some perceived problems with Toymallet 40 cent. We also ask about what you are doing in the hobby, so we can have an idea of a direction in which we should go. It is an hour and forty minutes of noisemaker goodness! Thanks for listening! |
Thu, 21 May 2009 Well, it's episode 13 of the Noisemaker podcast... And I really don't remember exactly what we talked about. I know it was something about Toymallet 40 cent, and I know that Ryan and I talked about painting a bit. Also, I'm sure we talked about something called Geeky Gaming Guilt. But it's episode 13, so you can't really expect it to be awesome. I think there was a little bit of machine gun fire, and maybe an explosion or two, as I do a battlefield report of a solo Toymallet game I did... Also, I talked about another wonderful book from Osprey Publishing called British Napoleonic Infantry Tactics, 1792 -- 1815. Hmm... I wonder if I bought that one after reading the French one? Hey, it's episode 13. Anything goes. You should just glad you've got an episode 13, and so soon! Only a week! Wow! Episode 14 is also in the hopper... But you're going to have to wait a week for that one too... So... Enjoy! Comments[0] |
